Our friend Bob and Steve took a tramp on the mountains near the town of Selah on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, part of "The Rockies" last Saturday. Unfortunately, I do not remember the river this dam is controlling but the view down to it looking over this very steep grade is exciting.

One can see the town of Selah off in the distance. These boys walked the trails until they reached the summit of one of the mountains in the area. Evidently, one can pull off the road and start walking without fear of having one's car ticketed for being on the side of the road. There is very little traffic to none on this road.
This is Bob, our friend and the reason for this picture is to show how hard the wind was blowing on the ridge. He has his back to the force of it and it made his shorts look "form-fitting." We're all too old to be wearing that type of clothing. ;-)
Here is another picture of the dam at a lower altitude. West of these mountains is an environment lush with green and temperate temperatures with rainy winters but east of these mountains is arid land that is desert with more seasonal changes in the temperature. The Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges wring out the clouds of their moisture coming in from the Pacific Ocean and by the time the Cascade's has had its way with them there if very little to no precipitation left, hence, the desert-like environment.
