The Vistas Near Selah, Washington

Our friend Bob and Steve took a tramp on the mountains near the town of Selah on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, part of "The Rockies" last Saturday. Unfortunately, I do not remember the river this dam is controlling but the view down to it looking over this very steep grade is exciting.
Enlarge the pictures if you like.

One can see the town of Selah off in the distance. These boys walked the trails until they reached the summit of one of the mountains in the area. Evidently, one can pull off the road and start walking without fear of having one's car ticketed for being on the side of the road. There is very little traffic to none on this road.

This is Bob, our friend and the reason for this picture is to show how hard the wind was blowing on the ridge. He has his back to the force of it and it made his shorts look "form-fitting." We're all too old to be wearing that type of clothing. ;-)

Here is another picture of the dam at a lower altitude. West of these mountains is an environment lush with green and temperate temperatures with rainy winters but east of these mountains is arid land that is desert with more seasonal changes in the temperature. The Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges wring out the clouds of their moisture coming in from the Pacific Ocean and by the time the Cascade's has had its way with them there if very little to no precipitation left, hence, the desert-like environment.

Beautiful spots--thanks for sharing some views of your part of the world, my friend!

Don't you hate when Nature dictates fashion!?!

Great venture......:_)

Greg: You bet! I gave up fashion a long time ago. I decided when a shroud started looking stylish on me I would just leave the modeling to the younger generations. Since I'm built for comfort and not speed, I dress accordingly. ;-)

johnny368: It's amazing looking down on the towns and lower elevations and being nearly as high as the clouds. There are many places in Washington State where the wind is so severe one has to turn their back to it. Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics and one of the lookout points at Mt. St. Helen come to mind. Count on bringing a sweater or light jacket along. When it's warm in the valleys it is usually nice up at higher elevations.

Wonder Man: Thanks. All one can hear is the wind. ;-)

There must have been a lake too, no? Pretty pics.

Torn: The dam is called Roza Dam and the trail is called the Yakima Ridge Skyline Trail. This is just north of Yakima, Washington on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountain Range, a part of the Rockies. There are quite a few rivers in the area and a few lakes as well though they weren't seen on this tramp.

Dantallion: I agree, and I love how free one feels when out and about in nature. You also, feel so insignificant and just a small part of the whole picture as well.
